Vietnam Tennis Federation in association with the National Olympic Committee of Vietnam organised a 12 day ITF/OS Beginners and Intermediate players course in Ho Chi Minh City, the financial capital of Vietnam. The city has a huge tennis playing population, most people play amateur tennis and play for health, the game is so popular that it is tough to get courts on weekends to play.

VTF selected twenty four candidates from different provinces of Vietnam to attend the
76.5 hours course, which also includes the Tennis Play and Stay course. The course tutors Kawaljeet Singh from India and local tutor Tran Quoc Puong shared the latest information on teaching methods during the course. Candidates enjoyed and learnt from the experience of understanding new teaching skills, especially playing with red, orange and green balls on appropriate courts with systematic progressions in teaching starter players.

The Beginners and Intermediate course is the first course with this new syllabus to take
place in Vietnam. For most of the candidates from the provinces, this was the first time they had attended any technical course and it was great to see the remarkable improvement from their traditional way of coaching to learning new teaching skills.

Tran Thanh Hoang, member of the Davis cup team of Vietnam, said “The course will
benefit me in my teaching career and I hope to participate in more courses in the future”.

“I already teach advance players and thought I will attend the course for a day to see how it goes. I am glad I came to the course and benefitted from the very useful information given on how to build young players” said Huynh Phu Qui, a senior player who runs one of the biggest tennis centres in HCM".

Mr Tran Quoc Phong, the course coordinator and tutor appointed from Vietnam expressed "We do not have many coaches’ seminars. It is one of the most important steps in developing tennis and it was a great opportunity for our coaches to learn new information and methods of coaching”.

Mr Nguyen Quoc Ky, Vice President and General Secretary VTF, while thanking ITF, Olympic Solidarity and NOC Vietnam during the closing and certification ceremony interacted with coaches and urged coaches to implement new tennis techniques.  He also gave assurance that VTF will look forward to holding more such seminars in the country.
